Our History

Bill Huffman started as a volunteer at Grid Alternatives in January 2009 after retiring from Intel Corp.  He quickly became a lead installer, and then accumulated over 25 jobs as a lead installer for Grid Alternatives.  The following year he started working for a contractor and started his first professional work on two ranches in Auburn California.  While on a job installing solar on a new custom home in the SF Bay Area, he met a contractor who liked his work and then he started working for the contractor on new custom homes.  Over the years, he has expanded to work with a number of contractors throughout the SF Bay Area and into the Monterey Bay Area. In 2014 he also started doing a number of jobs on existing residential homes. He has been a certified Solar PV Installation Professional since 2012.  

Our energy is focused on solar designs, and identification of optimal equipment and installation methodology… With emphasis on the customer and his/her home or business.

As you can see in our example photographs, we have designed and built solar arrays on a large variety of roof types including: Slate roofs, clay tile roofs, concrete roofs, IB Roofs, and composition roofs.  We have also built ground-mount systems.
